The Challenge
Poultry farmers operate under constant pressure to improve flock performance while managing tight production cycles and rising input costs. Early weight gain in chicks is a critical driver of farm profitability, but existing products in the market delivered inconsistent results and often required disruptive changes to established feeding practices.
The Approach
A collaborative innovation initiative was launched with the Research and Development team, combining customer insight from poultry farmers with technical expertise to define what a high-performing product needed to deliver:
- Customer insights from poultry farmers were gathered to define performance requirements focused on measurable early weight gain and ease of integration into existing farm operations
- The product was designed and refined through controlled field trials that validated performance under real operating conditions
- Compatibility with current feeding regimens was prioritized to minimize the barrier to adoption
- Commercialization planning ensured the product could be scaled quickly with clear, credible value messaging for farmers
The Outcome
The product enabled chicks to gain weight earlier in the production cycle, allowing farmers to shorten grow-out periods and increase flock turnover. Adoption was rapid because the economic benefit was clear and the disruption to existing practices was minimal.
Within the first year of commercial launch, the product generated $1.27 million in additional revenue and established the organization as an innovation leader in the poultry sector.
